Brew a coffee bag, let the coffee cool, then pour it over ice. Add milk if you like.

You can make iced coffee at home with a coffee bag, a mug and a glass of ice. Brew the coffee first, let it cool, then pour it over ice. Add milk if you like.

What you need

  • 1 coffee bag
  • Freshly boiled water, using the amount shown on the coffee pack
  • Ice
  • Cold milk, optional

How to make iced coffee with a coffee bag

  1. Put the coffee bag in a mug and add freshly boiled water, following the directions on its pack.
  2. Stir and leave it to brew. The current Presto House Espresso coffee-bag product page recommends 3 minutes. Other brands can differ, so follow the instructions on the bag you are using.
  3. Remove the bag and let the coffee cool. For a colder drink, chill it in the fridge.
  4. Fill a glass with ice and pour over the cooled coffee. Add cold milk if you like.

Can I pour hot coffee straight over ice?

You can, but melting ice will dilute the coffee. Letting it cool first helps preserve its strength. If you want to make it ahead, brew the coffee and chill it until you are ready to serve.

Is iced coffee the same as cold brew?

No. This recipe starts with hot-brewed coffee that is cooled. Cold brew steeps coffee in cool or room-temperature water for longer; the Specialty Coffee Association explains the difference.
