Instant coffee is a popular way of getting your caffeine fix. The convenience of just adding hot water to the powder makes it attractive for those who can't or don't want to wait for coffee to brew. But is instant coffee bad for you? We'll answer all your questions here. Read on!
The Difference Between Instant Coffee and Regular Coffee: Coffee comes from seeds of the red coffea plant which are roasted, ground, and brewed with hot water. Instant coffee is made by drying roasted, ground beans until they release their oils and then spray-drying them so that they become powdery substances which dissolve in water when mixed with it; this amount of time reduces the tastiness of the coffee and makes it less bitter. Other ways to make instant coffee include dissolving powdery extracts in hot water or adding hot water to dry grounds and grinding them again, this one called "instant espresso," which is popular in Italy.
Are Instant Flavored Coffees Healthy?
There have been studies done on the effects of artificial flavors in food but there hasn't been much on instant coffee specifically. One study did find that some of those additives can increase blood cholesterol levels but this is disputed by other research. Other studies found that artificial flavourings caused weight gain in rats and that the artificial flavourings cause intestinal inflammation. The jury is still out for us, but it's not a good idea to add an extra cup of coffee to your diet if you feel fine with it. Otherwise, you can enjoy a healthy dose of caffeine with your morning or afternoon snack and be just fine!.
Different Ways to Make Instant Coffee:
Regular Instant Coffee: The most popular way of making instant is the freeze-drying method. In this method, the coffee has water removed from it via freezing. Then, it's placed in a vacuum in order to let the remaining water evaporate.
Italian "Instant Espresso": This type of instant coffee is known as caffè crema, it's made by grinding dry powdered coffee beans and mixing them with hot water. It's often made into a drink with sugar or sweetener and milk added to taste. It can also be served with ice, creating an iced coffee beverage.
